In 2003 Polish-American Tommy Wiseau wrote, directed, starred in and produced the film “The Room”. Promoted exclusively through a single billboard in Hollywood, which remained there for over 5 years; The Room steadily gained a cult following, eventually receiving the high honour of being regarded “The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies”.
The Disaster Artist (based on the award-winning book by Greg Sestero & Tom Bissell) tells the mysterious story over how such a film ever got made and paints a portrait of the enigmatic and downright bizarre Tommy Wiseau.
“The Disaster Artist is a surprisingly poignant and charming movie-about-a-movie that explores the creative process with unexpected delicacy.”
“James Franco directs the film with sensitivity and painstaking detail, and gives a fantastic performance as one of the worst filmmakers — and one of the most unusual human beings — ever.”
