A witty and refreshing take on the “Romantic Comedy” genre, The Big Sick is a funny and moving but most importantly authentic story of modern romance between two people across cultures. Based on the true lives of the writers Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani (Nanjiani also playing the lead in the film) The Big Sick takes place in Chicago, with Kumail as a stand-up comedian who ends up having a (One!) night stand with a heckler at one of his shows called Emily. As their unintentional romance blossoms, the two have to face their differences and short-comings, parents and ultimately a life-threatening illness. Nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 2018 Academy Awards.

“Director Michael Showalter’s engaging, thoughtful film is most easily billed as a romantic comedy, but it has far more depth and dimension than your standard rom-com.”
