Julia (Classic Tuesdays)

Erick Zonca, France/US/Mexico/Belgium 2008

Tilda Swinton, Saul Rubinek, Kate del Castillo Rated 15 Run time 138 mins

Tilda Swinton as you’ve never seen her before! This gritty portrait of a woman in crisis finds her in a role as an alcoholic nearly scraping the bottom and who finds herself involved in a plan to help a mother kidnap her child in return for desperately needed cash. But she has her own secret scheme to benefit herself even more. This is a great thriller with twists and turns, surprises and rotten luck. Swinton is amazing.

“Tilda Swinton is fearless. She’ll take on any role without her ego, paycheck, vanity or career path playing a part. All that matters, apparently, is whether the movie interests her, and whether she thinks she can do something interesting with the role. She almost always can. She hasn’t often been more fascinating than in “Julia,” a nerve-wracking thriller with a twisty plot and startling realism.”
