Arrival

Denis Villeneuve (2016)

Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker Rated 12A Run time 118 mins

A highly intelligent piece of Science Fiction that really deserves the attention of even the more agnostic of our members.

Dennis Villeneuve’s  film is both heartfelt and very entertaining and is adapted from a remarkable award-winning short story ‘Story of Your Life’ by Ted Chiang.  A ‘first contact’ film that rewards close attention whilst balancing the fact that, whilst set among space ‘beasties’, it is absolutely about the human condition, about how we choose who to love and how to love them.
A film to reignite your excitement for cinema.

“The revelation here is Villeneuve, who expands on the symphonic pacing showcased last year in the drug war drama Sicario. Even though the concept of Arrival is far-out fiction, Villeneuve treats it with no less detail or urgency.”

“With Arrival, Villeneuve finally finds a subject, and a script, whose magnitude matches the weight he assigns to it. All it took was an alien species’ appearance on Earth.”
